How to Configure BUTT Encoder to Stream on Zeno.fm

To broadcast a radio station online, you need both an encoder and a streaming host. BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) works as the encoder software, while Zeno.fm can be used as the streaming platform to host and distribute your audio stream.

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through how to connect BUTT to Zeno.fm and start streaming.

Step 1 – Create Your Zeno. fm Account

Before configuring BUTT, you'll need a free account with Zeno.fm.

1. After creating your account, go to the Plans  tab in your dashboard.

Step 2 – Retrieve Your Stream Credentials from Zeno

Once logged into your Zeno.fm account:

1. Navigate to your station dashboard.
   
2. Under Broadcast Settings , you'll find the following details:
   

• Server Address (e.g. stream.zeno.fm )
  
• Port (e.g. 8000 )
  
• Mount Point (e.g. /yourstation )
  
• Username
  
• Password

Step 3 – Configure BUTT Encoder

1. Open BUTT .
   
2. Go to Settings → Main → Server Settings .
   
3. Click Add  to create a new server profile.
   
4. Enter the details from your Zeno.fm account:
   

• Address:  (Server Address from Zeno)
  
• Port:  (Port number from Zeno)
  
• Password:  (Your Zeno stream password)
  
• Mountpoint:  (Your Zeno mount point) Make sure to add a "/" before the mountpoint  (e.g., "/mystation").
  
• Type:   Icecast
  

5. Save your configuration.

Step 4 – Set Up the Audio

In Audio Settings , configure the following:

• Channel:  Stereo
  
• Codec:  MP3
  
• Bitrate:  128k (good quality streaming)

Click Save  when done.

Step 5 – Start Streaming

1. In BUTT, select your newly created Zeno server profile.
   
2. Click Play/Connect .
   
3. You should now see status updates confirming your connection.

Your stream will go live on Zeno.fm and be accessible worldwide.

Step 6 – Test & Verify

• Visit your station page  on Zeno.fm to confirm your stream is live.
  
• You can also share your station link with listeners or embed the player on your website.
